Factors Influencing Adherence to Physiotherapy Appointments for Children with Cerebral Palsy at Chilenje Hospital in Zambia: A Mother’s Perspective (2017-2018)

Adherence to treatment appointments by mothers of children with Cerebral Palsy is one the factors affected in rehabilitation a child Palsy, and this cardinal ensure effective outcomes for child. Hence study aimed explore influencing poor adherence physiotherapy at Chilenje Hospital, Lusaka. A qualitative case design utilising phenomenological approach was conducted sample 12 palsy from Convenient sampling utilized where who were non-adhering also purposefully selected into better understand affecting physiotherapy. The that contributed caregivers defaulting scheduled therapy included economic constraints like unemployment low education level, caregiver related such as marital challenges, service centered challenges diagnosis negative clinician attitudes. Majority admitted they motivated attend observable improvements their children. combination psychosocial, economic, therapy. Interventions may potentially improve attendance include community outreach services, efficient provision hospitals, facilitation income generating programmes caregivers.
